Since the sacking of Keith Curle earlier in the week, Steve Evans has been linked with the vacancy at Meadow Lane, but he plays it down today and looks towards his future with the Millers.

When pressed on the Notts speculation by the Advertiser, he said: “I have come here to work on a special project to take this club forward and it is one that continues to excite me. It remains my main focus and I don't want any distractions.

“It's about much more than this season and I intend to see the job through.

“There are a lot of good teams involved in the promotion race and I think a lot will pop in and out of the top three. We need every point we can get along a difficult journey and it's worth noting that early last February both Southend and Cheltenham were in the top three and neither went up, so it shows that a lot can change."

The Millers face two tough away games at Burton and Torquay this week before next Saturdays visit of Chesterfield, and Evans added: “Burton are strong at home and Gary Rowett has done and excellent job. It doesn't surprise me they are up there.

“Torquay is a different kettle of fish. It's a long journey and we'll be going down on Monday to prepare properly but we have been travelling well this season and we will go into these games with confidence.”
