“It was my most difficult week last week,” said Evans speaking to the Star after his side suffered back to back home defeats to Barnet and Bristol Rovers, before bouncing back with a 3-1 win over Northampton Town.
“Some decisions you’re not happy with; not all selections you get right, and you take it quite badly.
“I spoke to other managers, people like Sir Alex Ferguson, Harry Redknapp, Neil Warnock and others, people I have a lot of respect for and sometimes they re-focus you rather than change you.
“I spoke long and hard to players too during the week about the key characteristics that I think that players have to have to a minimum but which are absolutely essential,” added Evans.
“We’re talking effort, passion, commitment - things I pointed out when I first came here and if you don’t have those three then you don’t get your ability out. We had all three on Saturday (against Northampton) plus desire and fight.”
Meanwhile Evans gave his squad an extra day off ahead of Saturdays game at Burton Albion, who sit just a point above the Millers with an excellent home record.
“It was to help freshen up their legs after the physicality of the Northampton game,” said Evans, who takes a Rotherham side to the Pirelli Stadium for the first time, a ground where they've never been defeated.
