Atkinson just looking to improve

After making his debut last weekend, winger Will Atkinson says he just hopes his time with the Millers will benefit all parties. The 22 year-old is highly thought of at parent club Hull City and a new deal is thought on the table at the KC Stadium next year. Meanwhile, having spent time out on loan at Rochdale last season and helping them to promotion, Atkinson hopes his time with Rotherham will help everyone concerned. He told todays Advertiser:"I would like to think I can play higher but sometimes you have to come down to work your way back up," he explained."You get your opportunities and you have to take them when they come. "This is a chance for me to showcase my talents and hopefully it can benefit Rotherham and me. As a player, I'm right-footed but I'm not bad with my left. I like to get into little pockets of space and take players on and create things and get shots away. "I'm really more of an attacking player but people always say I do an unselfish job for the team. I'm looking to improve. I've been at Hull a long time but if it doesn't happen there for me for some reason then hopefully it can happen at somewhere like Rotherham." Atkinson unfortunately gave away a penalty in last weeks game with Aldershot but looked promising in most departments before coming off in the second half with a knock, and continued: "Their lad ran across me and I couldn't really get out of the way and I clipped his legs. "I protested, like you do, but deep down I know it was a penalty. I was praying they'd miss it and they did. I was just happy to get my debut out of the way and get off to a winning start. "I didn't think I set anything on fire but the most important thing was the win, especially after a couple of weeks off with no games. My last game was Burnley away for Hull in early October and it was good to be back playing competitive football in front of a crowd. "It's a lot better than reserves, as everyone says. No-one wants to be sat in the stands or on the bench. They want to be out on the pitch playing first team games and I'm no different."
