Scott eyes SPL return

Martin Scott is hoping to use Ross County's Active Nation Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic on Saturday as a springboard back into the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

Scott was planning for a long career among Scotland's elite when he made his debut for hometown club Livingston against Rangers almost five years ago. But the 24-year-old midfielder quickly found himself outside the top flight and has been attempting to reforge his reputation in Dingwall since 2006.

"I've played in the Premier league and I've played in the big stadiums and I want to try to get back there," he said.

"But, at the moment, I'm with Ross County and I'm trying to get my career back on track. I'm trying to show people I can go on and play at that level again."

Paul Lambert, who is now manager of Norwich, handed Scott his big break at Ibrox and the latter joked: "I'm still waiting on the phonecall from him to take me to Norwich, but he doesn't seem to be phoning me!

"I was marking Barry Ferguson in that game. We ended up getting beaten 3-0, but we limited them to about five chances in the game."

County stunned Hibernian to reach their first ever Scottish Cup semi-final and Scott hailed the confidence the players have been given by manager Derek Adams.

"The manager believes in how good a group of players he's got at the moment," Scott said. "There is a good team spirit in the camp.

"We are under no illusions, Celtic have got international players but we have a game plan and we'll try to upset them and give a good account our ourselves.

"That just shows how good a group of players the manager and George Adams has built here. They have been shrewd in their signings."
