McIntyre wary of St Mirren threat

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has warned his players not to take St Mirren lightly on Saturday.

Scottish Premiership bottom club St Mirren stunned Kilmarnock with a 4-1 victory two weeks ago and McIntyre knows they will be out for revenge following his side's crucial 3-0 win in Paisley last month.

The Friday night contest between Motherwell and Kilmarnock will have a major bearing on both County and Saints but McIntyre wants his players to focus on their own game.

McIntyre said: "It's all about us. It's so important we try and secure our own future. We know it will be tough, St Mirren had a great result against Kilmarnock two weeks ago.

"They have good players in their side who showed that day they are capable of producing.

"Having just played them as well not long ago, they will be smarting from that result and want to come up here and make sure they put a spanner in the works for ourselves."

County striker Craig Curran is only focused on getting three points regardless of results elsewhere.

Curran said: "We are not really looking at other results. We are just looking at our own performances. If we get three points on Saturday, it puts us in a better position than we are now.

"It won't affect our approach, whether Motherwell win, lose or draw, we will still be approaching it the same way because we want to finish as high as we can.

"We will all be delighted to have it done and dusted this weekend but we can't affect other results. We just have to make sure we don't let other results affect us."

McIntyre could name an unchanged squad. Richard Brittain started for the under-20s in their midweek draw with Rangers as he bids to come back from a hamstring injury.

Darren Barr (knee) remains on the sidelines.

St Mirren youngster Jack Baird hopes the Buddies' impeding relegation could be the making of him as a player.

The Paisley men may already have lost their Premiership place by the time they kick off at the Global Energy Stadium on Saturday afternoon if Motherwell can beat Kilmarnock on Friday night.

It would be a bitter blow for Saints boss Gary Teale after months of battling against the tide. But 19-year-old Baird says there could be a silver lining in demotion for youngsters like him.

The teenage defender has made five appearances in his debut campaign but hopes dropping down to the second flight might open up the opportunity for more.

He told Press Association Sport: "I've loved every minute of the games I've played this year and just hope I can get a few more before the end of the season.

"It's been great for me but I do understand this season has not been great for the team.

"I know it's been difficult for the other players but I just need to go out and do my best and show my enthusiasm.

"If you'd told me before the season I'd have played this many games I'd have been over the moon. The problems the side have faced have probably helped me and my education as a player as I've been given my chance in the side.

"For the club, going down a division would not be great. But from my point of view, if and when we go to down to the Championship it could benefit me as a player as I'd probably get more chances to play."

Teale has no fresh injuries. Only midfielder John McGinn, who injured his thigh in a freak training ground incident last month, is missing for the Scottish Premiership's bottom club.
