Brittain unfazed by goal shortage Ross County captain Richard Brittain believes the paucity of goals in their Clydesdale Bank Premier League games is symptomatic of the tight nature of the competition. Brittain is the only County player to score in the SPL, the midfielder having netted from a free-kick against Celtic and a penalty in the win over Dundee. The Dingwall side have only conceded one goal, in injury-time against Celtic, in their six games. Derek Adams' side go looking for their first home win of the season on Saturday against St Johnstone and Brittain has no concern about their attacking potential. The former St Mirren midfielder said: "It just shows you how closely matched teams are. "I don't think it comes down to striking options, it just shows you how little there is between the teams. "I don't think it's anything to do with a lack of striking options because it's not just strikers who score goals. "But we are confident - with the quality we have got in the squad, the goals will start to flow." County have extended their unbeaten league run to 40 games since winning the Irn-Bru First Division and only SPL leaders Motherwell are also undefeated in the competition this season. But Brittain was quick to point out that his side have achieved nothing yet. "We have got a decent foothold in the league but there is a long, long way to go and it's only a foothold," the 28-year-old said. "Look at some teams that have come up before us, they have started really, really well, even up to January-February time and then fallen away and ended up getting relegated. "We are only six games in and there is a long, long way to go, there is no getting away from that. "It's a good start but that's all it is, it doesn't count for anything at the end of the season. "We need to keep working hard and getting points on the board." While Brittain is not getting carried away by their success, he is equally unconcerned at their wait for a home win following draws against Motherwell, Celtic and Kilmarnock. And County are unlikely to take risks against St Johnstone in a bid to please their home fans. "As long as we keep picking up points," Brittain said. "We are happy enough with the start we have made. It could be better but then again everything could be better." St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas insists last week's victory against Celtic will count for nothing if his team lose on Saturday. Saints stunned the Scottish champions when they fought back from behind to claim a 2-1 Clydesdale Bank Premier League win in front of their jubilant fans at McDiarmid Park. Lomas has now told his players they must build on their first victory of the season. He said: "I think any win makes training a lot more enjoyable. "To come back after such an early setback was very positive. "But, listen, it will count for nothing if we don't go up and produce the same sort of performance and hopefully get a result against Ross County, who are bang in form." Celtic took the lead after just four minutes through Kris Commons last weekend before St Johnstone hit back with goals from Gregory Tade and Rowan Vine. Lomas believes clinical finishing in front of goal made all the difference after passing up chances in previous outings. He said: "We have been putting in good performances but we took our chances on Saturday, which made a big difference. "It's not going to be easy. What a great run Ross County have been on - it's been an absolute credit to themselves and the club." St Johnstone are aiming to end an unbeaten league run of 40 games, which County have carried on from the Irn-Bru First Division into the SPL. Lomas told STV: "We would like to but we know it's going to be tough. "If you get anything up there, they certainly make you work for it so we are under no illusions. "It's going to be tough and we are going to have to perform at our best to get something from the game. "The lads are under no illusions, they are going to have to perform well. "But, that being said, if we perform like we did against Celtic and like we did in the other away games, the key thing is to take our chances."
