Three in a row for Ross County

Ross County made it three wins on the trot for the first time in two years with a thoroughly deserved 1-0 victory over Dundee at Global Energy Stadium.

County had three great chances to score before they got the vital goal, including an effort from Jackson Irvine which Dundee goalkeeper Scott Bain touched on to the post.

The winner came midway through the second half when Liam Boyce and Michael Gardyne combined on the right, and when Gardyne swung over the cross to the back post Jamie Reckord was free to steer the ball into the empty net.

Dundee threatened in the second minute when James McAlister got to the byline but there were no takers for his cross which flashed across goal.

At the other end, Thomas Konrad did well to head clear a Raffaele De Vita cross before Boyce could pounce.

County were knocking it about well in the middle of the park and they put together a good move in the 14th minute. Gardyne slipped the ball through for Boyce, whose back flick almost let in Craig Curran but James McPake stepped in to clear the danger.

The home side were dictating the pace but in a breakaway move Dundee striker Greg Stewart surged forward and sent a long-range shot well wide of Mark Brown's right hand post.

County got another sight of goal in the 40th minute when Boyce beat Konrad to the ball and let in Gardyne, who flashed his shot wildly over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.

County went all out for an opener at the start of the second half and after Bain punched away an awkward cross from De Vita, he blocked a Scott Boyd shot at close range after De Vita sent over a cross to the back post.

The home side were getting closer and Bain did well to touch a low drive from Irvine on to the post in the 55th minute.

A couple of minutes later Bain had to be quick off his line to boot clear from the inrushing Irvine.

But the hosts' pressure paid off in the 66th minute when Boyce fed the ball through for Gardyne, who shrugged off his marker and chipped the ball to the back post for Reckord to tap home.

It was almost a second for County in the 77th minute when substitute Jake Jervis got on the end of a De Vita cross but his header crashed off the underside of the crossbar before being cleared.

Dundee pushed for an equaliser but they never came close to testing Brown in the County goal before the end.
