Tranmere 0-0 Rochdale: Report

No winner in enthralling contest

Tranmere and Rochdale played out a goalless draw in a lively battle between two of npower League One's strugglers at Prenton Park.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro shaved the outside of a post for Dale in the third minute and, soon after, Gary Jones brought a good save from Paul Rachubka.

At the other end, John Welsh and Robbie Weir tested Peter Kurucz with good efforts before the goalkeeper did well to block a close-range Lucas Akins header after 16 minutes.

Opportunities became less frequent but loan signing Lateef Elford-Alliyu twice went close before the break for the Merseysiders.

Tranmere showed more urgency after the restart, but Dale could have gone ahead in the 56th minute when Jason Kennedy saw his strike kicked off the line by David Buchanan.

It was almost 1-0 for the home side on 77 minutes, but a Joss Labadie free-kick hit a post after deflecting off Kennedy.

And, in the dying moments, Kurucz somehow blocked a goal-bound effort by substitute Cole Stockton.
