Spot-kick gets Adams off the mark

Rochdale looked like securing their first win at Vale Park until a linesman adjudged a cross by Lee Collins had struck Tom Kennedy on the arm - and Marc Richards dispatched the spot-kick. The visitors' pace in attack gave them the edge in a hard fought first-half which saw Joe Thompson and Chris Dagnall go close as Thompson's header from Will Buckley's 16th minute corner was cleared in front of the line by Richards and the elusive Dagnall tested Chris Martin twice, with the second attempt forcing a flying save from the Vale 'keeper. Increasing pressure finally brought its reward in the 66th minute when Thompson buried a far-post header after leaping to meet an excellent cross from Buckley. It didn't look good for Adams' men, but they got the break they needed 15 minutes from time and Richards made no mistake from the spot to earn Vale a share of the spoils.
