Muldoon to miss out

Rochdale will be without summer signing Jack Muldoon for their opening game at home against Peterborough.

The 24-year-old striker, signed from Worksop Town in May, has missed most of pre-season due to a groin problem, but boss Keith Hill has plenty of other options.

Fellow forward Calvin Andrew is hoping to make his debut for the club following his arrival from York and another summer recruit, Sean McGinty, is pushing for his first appearance at the heart of defence.

The pre-season performances of young prospects Callum Camps and Andy Cannon, both midfielders, has given Hill a selection headache, while new skipper and centre-half Ollie Lancashire will lead the side.

The departure of last season's top scorer Britt Assombalonga means Kyle Vassell is now likely to get his chance up front alongside Conor Washington for Peterborough.

Michael Smith and Erhun Oztumer are expected to be in the squad after recovering from knocks but fellow summer signing Jon Taylor is doubtful with an ankle injury.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's chances of starting will increase if Taylor does miss out, but Posh boss Darren Ferguson seemed cautious about starting with teenage Tottenham loanee Kenny MCEvoy.

And Ferguson would not rule out a role in the team from some of those currently on the transfer list, including striker Tyrone Barnett.
