Joe Thompson set to make Rochdale return against Chesterfield

Rochdale have new signing Joe Thompson available for their EFL Cup first-round clash with Chesterfield.

Thompson has returned to his former club on a six-month deal to provide depth in a squad struggling with injuries.

Peter Vincenti, Matty Lund and Ruben Noble-Lazarus are all awaiting return dates while new signing Oliver Rathbone is not yet cleared to make his debut.

Triallist River Humphreys has been released.

Spireites boss Danny Wilson has no new injury concerns ahead of the trip to Spotland but admitted his side had tired legs following Saturday's draw at Oxford.

Striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is pushing for a recall after being left out of the squad against the U's, while defender Sam Hird also comes back into contention.

Bermuda forward Rai Simons could again feature after returning from a hamstring injury as a substitute on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Tommy Lee (shoulder) remains out, along with midfielder Angel Martinez (knee) and defender Dan Jones.
