Rochdale stun League One leaders Burton

Burton missed the chance to stretch their lead at the top of Sky Bet League One as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Rochdale.

The hosts bounced back from their 6-1 thrashing at Barnsley last weekend thanks to first-half goals from Callum Camps and Ian Henderson.

Lucas Akins pulled a goal back with 12 minutes left but the Brewers failed to take advantage of second-placed Gillingham's defeat at Blackpool.

The home side took the lead ahead eight minutes in. Jamie Allen's neat work in midfield ended with a precise pass into Camps, 25 yards from goal, and he advanced towards the area before thumping a rising drive past Burton goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

Burton had the chance to level when Akins had an empty goal to aim at, with Dale goalkeeper Josh Lillis caught out of position, but Olly Lancashire recovered to head the goalbound effort away.

Rochdale's second arrived in the 24th minute when referee Stuart Attwell punished John Mousinho for shoving Henderson to the floor inside the penalty area and Henderson stepped up himself to convert the spot-kick.

Anthony O'Connor had the ball in the net for Burton when he met Mark Duffy's cross in the 38th minute, only for his effort to be ruled offside.

Burton did level in the 78th minute when goalkeeper Lillis was caught in no man's land and Akins took advantage with a lob into the unguarded goal but Rochdale held on for a deserved three points.
