Rochdale promoted to League One

Rochdale secured promotion to League One with a 2-0 win against Cheltenham at Spotland.

First-half goals from Peter Vincenti and Ian Henderson, combined with Fleetwood's failure to beat Southend, confirmed Dale's place among the automatic promotion places.

The home side took the lead 11 minutes in when Henderson collected George Donnelly's pass down the left flank, cut into the Robins area and delivered a precise pass for Vincenti to side-foot home from 10 yards.

The advantage was doubled five minutes later when Bastien Hery and Donnelly combined to set up Henderson, who forced the ball home from close range.

It could have been worse for Cheltenham had Craig Braham-Barrett not cleared Donnelly's shot off the line.

The visitors improved as the half wore on, Jamie Cureton and Byron Harrison seeing half chances comfortably saved by Josh Lillis.

But Dale maintained control of the contest after the break and almost scored a third when Donnelly volleyed Henderson's cross narrowly wide.

Cheltenham barely tested Lillis in a second half comfortably controlled by the home side who regained their place at the top of the table after Scunthorpe slipped up at Exeter.
