Tykes see off Hill's Dale

Barnsley picked up their first win in six games with a 1-0 victory over former boss Keith Hill and his high-flying Rochdale side.

The visitors landed the first blow, taking the lead in the 10th minute. Conor Hourihane's corner was headed home by the unmarked Peter Ramage, making his first appearance for the Tykes since returning on loan from Crystal Palace.

Rochdale had several chances to level before the break, Ian Henderson volleying wide and Peter Vincenti firing wastefully over the top as Keith Hill's men failed to make the most of their chances. At the other end, Dale stopper Conrad Logan kept out efforts from Devante Cole and Hourihane as Barnsley posed a serious threat on the counter attack.

After the break, Henderson, Vincenti and Matt Done were frustrated in quick succession by Ross Turnbull while Sam Winnall saw a great chance go begging for the visitors when he scuffed Cole's cross wide.

Logan brilliantly saved Hourihane's penalty in time added on after Jack O'Connell brought down Cole.
