Play-off dream dies for Hill

Manager Keith Hill accepted Rochdale will be a League One team again next season after losing to Carlisle at Spotland. Goals from Joe Thompson and Matt Done put Dale ahead in the second half, but a 30-yard stunner from Liam Noble and goalkeeping error from Owain Fon Williams saw Hill`s team lose 3-2. The defeat, along with Bournemouth's draw at Yeovil, left Rochdale three points behind the Cherries with three games to play, including the final fixture of the season at Dean Court. But Hill believes his team are unlikely to make up enough ground on Bournemouth, who have far superior goal difference. "A point would have kept us ahead of Leyton Orient and Exeter and two points behind Bournemouth. As it stands, there is a three-point margin between us and them now and I don't think it's going to be possible to close that margin in the last three games," said Hill. "It's a game which we lost from a winning position and we should have managed the game much better than we did. The defeat came about as a result of a mistake from the goalkeeper, but there was an equally big mistake when Chris O'Grady missed a one-on-one chance against their goalkeeper."
