joined Rochdale on loan from Swansea City in January 1998 before making the move permanent after 4 appearences for the club. Jones wa in and out of the team under former boss Graham Barrow and it wasn’t until Steve Parkin took over that Jones was used in a central midfield role and enjoyed some stability in the team . He soon became a favourite with the fans and in 1999/2000 was voted the club`s `Most Improved Player of the Season` . This was followed by a Players` Player of the Year award the next season by which time he was now the club captain.
