Rochdale have terminated the contract of Jon Boardman while agreeing a deal to sign David Perkins from Conference side Morecambe.
Boardman, 25, made 31 appearances for Dale after moving to Spotland from Woking 18 months ago.
But after struggling to break into the first team this season under new boss Keith Hill, the midfielder has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.
"I'm disappointed to be leaving but I have to say I've enjoyed it here," Boardman told the club's official website.
"It's a good little club and I've made some very good friends but, at the end of the day, it's the manager who picks the team and unfortunately he didn't pick me as often as I'd like."
Meanwhile, Hill has confirmed he is close to signing England non-league international midfielder Perkins.
The 24-year-old, who can also operate at left-back, is expected to complete a move to Spotland on Monday.
