No Dawson request - Dale

Rochdale have denied that sought-after defender Craig Dawson has handed in a transfer request. Reports in June claimed the npower League One club had turned down a request to leave from Dawson, and there were suggestions on Monday evening that the centre-back was again seeking a route out of Spotland. However, a club spokesman told Press Association Sport: "It's just the usual paper talk. He's quite happy here and he will be playing in the friendly against Fleetwood (on Tuesday night)." Dawson, 20, burst onto the scene in Dale's promotion winning campaign last season, scoring nine goals in forty starts from defence. These performances earned the former Radcliffe Borough youngster the League Two Player of the Year award at the end-of-season Football League Awards. Championship outfit Middlesbrough are thought to be leading the chase for Dawson.
