Newey eyeing deal with Rochdale

The 26-year-old defender, with 170 appearances under his belt at Blundell Park, saw his time with the club come to a surprisingly abrupt end when he was told by manager Mike Newell in March that he had no future in Lincolnshire. As a result he spent the remainder of the campaign at Spotland, but only made two appearances as Rochdale were dumped out of the play-offs by Gillingham. But Newey is hopeful that he can earn himself a full-time deal with Keith Hill's side. "When the Rochdale opportunity came about I jumped at it," he told the Grimsby Telegraph. It was a team doing well that wanted me - even as cover - and I've enjoyed it there. "Hopefully, I can stay there next season but I have other things to look at if not."
