Rochdale boss Keith Hill has continued his rebuilding job at Spotland by signing the Sheffield Wednesday defender Rory McArdle on a permanent basis.
The 19-year-old has penned a two-and-a-half year deal with Dale after spending a brief and unsuccessful spell at Hillsborough.
McArdle first joined Rochdale in August 2005 but moved to the Owls last summer. He made only two substitute appearances for Wednesday and returned to Dale on loan in November.
"I'm delighted to have signed a contract with Rochdale," McArdle told the League Two side's official website.
"I enjoyed my first stint and, when I heard Steve Parkin wanted me again, coming back to the club wasn't really a difficult decision.
"Hopefully we can continue in the same vein with results and move in the right direction."
