Maidstone suffered FA Cup heartbreak as Callum Camps' last-gasp equaliser enabled League One side Rochdale to force a first-round replay.
The Kent outfit took the lead after 21 minutes when former Norwich man Jamar Loza was brought down in the area before Bobby-Joe Taylor fired the resulting penalty past Rochdale goalkeeper Josh Lillis.
Keith Hill's side pushed for an equaliser at Gallagher Stadium and thought they had drawn level when Steve Davies had the ball in the back of the net, but he was deemed offside. Liam Enver-Marum had a glorious chance to put the game out of reach but fired wide from close range.
Jay Saunders' men were a minute away from their biggest win since being liquidated in 1992 before Camps' firmly-struck free-kick in added time saved Rochdale from an FA Cup shock. Maidstone defender Anthony Acheampong was shown a second yellow card for dissent after the final whistle.
Boreham Wood let a two-goal lead slip as Notts County fought back to claim a 2-2 draw at Meadow Park.
The National League side took a deserved lead when Angelo Balanta produced a neat through-ball into former Arsenal junior Morgan Ferrier, who calmly fired past Notts County goalkeeper Adam Collin.
Notts County, who suffered defeat to Salford City at the same stage last season, changed formation after the break but the move proved to no avail as slick build-up created an opening for Balanta, who lashed his effort into the far corner to double the lead.
But substitute Adam Campbell trimmed the deficit before Balanta should have scored a third when he scuffed a one-on-one opportunity. The visitors made Boreham Wood pay as Campbell, a former Newcastle trainee, popped up with a header to equalise and deny Luke Garrard's side their first ever win over a Football League side in the FA Cup.
Carlisle were 5-3 winners at National League South side St Albans in an eventful eight-goal thriller. St Albans caught the in-form League Two side cold at Clarence Park when Junior Morias cut in from the wing before blasting the Saints into the lead. Danny Grainger's penalty levelled before Jason Kennedy, who has now scored eight goals this season, headed home from a corner to give Keith Curle's side the lead.
But the Saints would not go out without a fight as Morias adjusted his feet before his low strike levelled the tie. But Carlisle, the only unbeaten side in the English Football League, proved too strong late on as Jabo Ibehre's brace and Reggie Lamb's strike was enough to send them into the second round. Louie Theophanous scored a late consolation for the hosts.
Taunton and Barrow shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the battle between fifth and fourth-tier clubs. All four goals were scored in the first half as Matthew Wright put Taunton in front before Byron Harrison equalised from the spot. The Peacocks regained the lead through Matt Villis but Liam Hughes levelled on the stroke of half-time.
Hughes would see red moments after his equaliser after a headbutt gesture at Taunton goalkeeper Lloyd Irish.
Goals from Jamille Matt and Brad Potts saw Blackpool cruise past Kidderminster 2-0 at Bloomfield Road.
Elsewhere, Hartlepool eased past Northern Premier Division Stamford 3-0 while Sheffield United thrashed Leyton Orient 6-0 at Bramall Lane. National League North side Alfreton settled for a 1-1 draw against Newport County and the first-round tie between Morecambe and Coventry finished with the same scoreline.
