Hill wants stars to stay

Rochdale manager Keith Hill will take his League Two table-toppers into battle again on Tuesday evening as they prepare to face Port Vale at Spotland.

His side have opened up a nine-point gap between themselves and second-placed Bournemouth and a further win would aid their automatic promotion aspirations.

Despite their excellent form, which they once again displayed in the 4-1 success at Cheltenham Town on Saturday, Will Buckley, Craig Dawson and Chris Dagnall have all been linked with big money moves away from the club.

Hill believes that if any of his star players move on it would only prove to be a positive move for their rivals.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Hill said: "You can't win promotion with 16 outfield players and two goalkeepers. I've heard of promotion-winning signings, but I've never heard of promotion-winning sales.

"I hope we don't fall into the trap of selling prize assets because, if we do, it would have an impact on our opponents because they'd breathe a sigh of relief that we've sold a top player.''
