Rochdale boss Keith Hill has admitted to taking a gamble on bringing Marc-Andre Manga to Spotland.
The 21-year-old French striker has joined Dale on non-contract terms for the next three months after impressing Hill on a recent trial.
Hill told the club's official website: "He's a good football player and very gifted. He has some work to do to reach the tempo levels we've set in training but we've seen something in the reserve team games we like.
"Marc will offer us something different because he's a good link player, something we perhaps don't have at the moment. He's primarily a goalscoring striker who's a very clever player too.
"It's an opportunity for him now and I suppose it's a bit of a risk, a bit of a gamble for us but you never win Bully's Special Prize without taking one."
