Hill: Thompson needs to get tough
The homegrown midfielder, 20, has shown glimpses of his ability this season but has also left supporters frustrated at times.
"He is only a young kid who is learning the game but he needs to be mentally stronger because like anyone else he is not keen on criticism," Hill said.
"There have been, for some reason, a lot of critics of him and he does hear them.
"It's unfortunate and can make a negative impact on people mentally and I think that Joe has got to learn to live with it a little bit."
