Rochdale boss Keith Hill branded his side's performance as "outstanding" after they claimed a shock 1-0 victory at Barnsley in the first round of the Carling Cup. Dale, who were promoted for the first time since 1969 in May, beat Mark Robins` side courtesy of Anthony Elding's header. Hill said: "My remit is that we remain in League One. The way we played is evident that we were playing to win this game. "We had them in on Sunday and Monday. We played exceptional well, confidence at Barnsley is low after they lost at the weekend. "We worked on a game plan and it worked. Barnsley are a good side and they'll pick up points in the league. At the end they were throwing everything at us and we defended it well, it was an outstanding performance. "Josh Lillis is an excellent keeper and has a calming effect it's the second clean sheet he's kept and clean sheets win you matches."
