Hill - English managers get it tough

Rochdale manager Keith Hill believes English managers are being unfairly overlooked for the top jobs in football. Hill completed his UEFA Pro-License last week, receiving his diploma after studying under the English FA, and believes the nation's current international woes could be remedied by a greater percentage of domestic talent managing at the top level. "I don't think English coaches are given the recognition they deserve," Hill told the Manchester Evening News. "I feel we are transfixed with foreign influences, and not all that is foreign is good. "It's obviously not worked with Fabio Capello at the World Cup. He is an excellent coach and an excellent manager, but I think we have some excellent coaches and managers in this country who get overlooked for foreign names. "Gianfranco Zola was a victim of being a success as a player and then being a failure as a manager and he was probably given the opportunity to manage West Ham because of the influence he had on the British game as a player. "That was wrong. I think an English manager would most probably have done a better job - certainly a more experienced one would have - but unfortunately they don't get the opportunity. I feel there should be a certain percentage of English managers managing in the Premier League and I feel that would definitely improve our game at international level."
