Dale moved up to third place in League Two after two second-half spot-kicks from Adam Le Fondre and a Rory McArdle header earned the hosts all three points.

Flitcroft said: "It was arguably the best performance of the season from our lads in every aspect, it was a wonderful performance from everyone who was involved.

"The players who came in out of the cold, like Mark Jones, were outstanding.

"Joe Thompson epitomises everything we are looking for in a player. He may not be the fans' choice, but he is our choice and we know when he is in the team he will do the job we ask of him. I speak to a lot of football people who recognise his talent and understand what he can do.

"As for Will Buckley, Bradford were a little bit out of order with some of the challenges they put in on him, there was no attempt to play the ball. But he passed the test of character and kept getting back up and going back into the lion's den."
