Flitcroft eyeing Dale promotion bid

Flitcroft was speaking after Dale rounded off their pre-season campaign with a resounding 4-1 win over Southport, and he is happy with the quality on display in the Spotland squad. However, the former midfielder refused to rule out a late swoop into the transfer market. "We know the 16 or 18 players we have got are of real high quality and we are quite happy going with that for the season but we are still looking at a couple of others as you never know what can happen," Flitcroft told the Manchester Evening News. "There is a lot of optimism in our league this season with big budget teams like Rotherham, Notts County and Chesterfield all chasing for honours. "Every season is different and this season is a clean slate. The history has gone now, what we did was last season, but Hilly (manager Keith Hill) and I are hungry for success - we all want to drive each other on and drive this team to try and achieve a play-off position."
