Dale thrash hapless Silkmen
05 Dec 2009 - 18:12:16
Rochdale and Bournemouth improved their chances of securing automatic promotion by clinching home victories while third-placed Rotherham United lost ground after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Burton Albion.
Table-topping Dale brushed aside lowly Macclesfield Town 3-0 at Spotland while a late Graham Coughlan own goal proved decisive at Dean Court as Bournemouth edged past Shrewsbury Town 1-0.
Rotherham threw away a two-goal lead at the Don Valley Stadium as the Brewers hit back to claim a point thanks to late goals by Aaron Webster and Greg Pearson.
Big-spending Notts County moved up to fourth by cruising to a 2-0 win at Hereford United, Craig Westcarr and Mike Edwards netting for the visitors.
Accrington Stanley's 4-2 win against Torquay United lifted them into the top half of the table while Bury moved into play-off contention by beating Barnet 2-0.
Relegation-threatened Grimsby Town seemed to be on course to win only their fourth game of the season until Jon Nurse's second-half goal ensured Dagenham & Redbridge left Blundell Park with a point.
Anthony Charles scored the only goal of the match as Aldershot Town edged past Chesterfield while Cheltenham Town and Northampton Town shared four goals at Whaddon Road.
Darlington remain rooted to the foot of the table after losing 1-0 at home to Bradford City while Crewe Alexandra were held to a goalless draw by misfiring Lincoln City at Gresty Road.
Finally Morecambe moved up to tenth after winning the mid-table clash at Port Vale 2-0.
