Rochdale have signed midfielder Ernie Cooksey on a two-year contract following his release by Oldham Athletic.
The 24-year-old made 41 appearances for the Latics last season, but manager Brian Talbot made it clear that his opportunities would be limited this term and allowed him leave on Wednesday.
However, Rochdale boss Steve Parkin is delighted to have him on board.
"I think he's another player that will do a good job for us," Parkin told the club's official website.
"There are plenty of positive things about his make-up and that should rub off on the other players. I'm delighted to have him at the club."
Cooksey began his career as a trainee at Colchester United, but failed to make the grade and had spells with non-league outfits Heybridge Swifts, Bishops Stortford, Bromley, Chesham United and Crawley Town before joining Oldham at the beginning of last season.
