Dale spring major shock at Saints
04 Sep 2010 - 17:07:04
Rochdale gained the result of the day in League One by winning 2-0 at Southampton, who had parted company with manager Alan Pardew earlier in the week.
Chris O'Grady broke the deadlock at St Mary's right on half-time and skipper Gary Jones then lashed home a clinching second with just over 20 minutes to play.
Peterborough United fell to a 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers, with Arnaud Mendy netting the only goal of the game a minute before the interval.
Huddersfield Town missed a chance to move level on points with Sheffield Wednesday at the top of the table, being held 2-2 at home to Bournemouth.
Josh McQuoid gave the Cherries the lead just past the half-hour mark, before Antony Kay levelled right on half-time. Gary Roberts converted a penalty early in the second half to give Town the lead, only for Marc Pugh to equalise for the visitors.
Carlisle United were held to a goalless draw at home to Swindon Town, while Oldham Athletic drew 1-1 at home to Bristol Rovers.
In the lunchtime kick-off, MK Dons edged out Hartlepool United 1-0 thanks to a Lewis Guy goal 13 minutes from time, holding on despite the sending-off of skipper Dean Lewington.
A last-minute Ryan Harley penalty condemned Charlton Athletic to defeat at St James Park as Exeter City edged a 1-0 win, while an Andy Bond strike gave Colchester United a 1-0 victory at Walsall.
Dagenham & Redbridge gained their first-ever win in League One, with a Romain Vincelot double enough to secure a 2-0 success at home to Leyton Orient.
Notts County thumped Yeovil Town 4-0 at Meadow Lane, with Ben Davies scoring twice, while Craig Westcarr and Lee Hughes also got on the scoresheet.
