Dale outrage as appeal fails

Rochdale midfielder David Perkins will miss the League Two play-off final against Stockport County on Bank Holiday Monday after losing his appeal against the red card he was handed in the win against Darlington.

Perkins netted a superb goal against the Quakers in the play-off semi-final second leg on Saturday but was then involved in a melee that ended in his dismissal.

Chairman Chris Dunphy is annoyed with the FA's decision to dismiss the appeal, telling Dale's official website: "I'm personally outraged to be honest because anybody who saw that on television could see that there was no contact.

"We felt confident that the decision could be overturned and we're stunned.

"The referee got it wrong and everyone can see that he got it wrong. This underlines the poor standard of refereeing that we've seen at Rochdale this season."
