Dale land veteran striker
01 Feb 2008 - 14:23:58
Rochdale have signed Lee Thorpe until the end of the season after agreeing a deal with Brentford for the experienced forward.
The 6ft striker has been brought in by manager Keith Hill to fill the gap left by Glenn Murray, who left the Lancashire club earlier in the transfer window to join League One outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.
Hill told Dale's official club website: "He could have sat comfortably on an 18-month contract at Brentford but chose instead to come here and prove himself. He can bring things to the table that perhaps we haven't got."
The 32-year-old hit-man has had spells at a handful of lower league clubs including Peterborough, Swansea and Bristol Rovers.
Thorpe signed professional terms with Blackpool as a trainee in 1994 before moving onto Lincoln in 1997. Thorpe enjoyed his best spell in league football at Sincil Bank bagging 57 league goals in just over 190 appearances for the Red Imps.
Dale are currently in the play-off positions in League Two, only six points out of the top-three with games in hand on all the clubs above them.
