Dale leave it late

Rochdale snatched a 1-1 draw at Tranmere with an equaliser in the fifth minute of added time. Skipper Gary Jones was the hero as he turned in a headed pass by Scott Wiseman. A fourth-minute goal from Lateef Elford-Alliyu, who blasted home from the corner of the box when set up by Ian Goodison, should have proved enough for a sixth home success for the Merseysiders but they lost concentration at a vital stage. Rochdale were slow to get going and rarely troubled Tony Warner in the home goal up to half-time. Chris O'Grady had the best chances but headed over from close range after 34 minutes and then fired straight at the keeper when in the clear four minutes later. It was cut and thrust in the second period but Tranmere remained the more threatening force. Dale Jennings should have doubled the lead in the 64th minute but missed the target after good work by Enoch Showunmi. Substitute Andy Robinson then brought a good save from Owain Fon Williams from his 20-yard free-kick before Rochdale rang the changes and it brought a dramatic finale.
