Dale chief targets loan moves

A combination of injuries and loans coming to an end has left Dale desperately short on numbers, resulting in just 14 outfield players training on Monday ahead of this weekend's trip to Dagenham & Redbridge.

"We tried to do a better deal with Norwich to extend Simon Whaley's stay by another month, but it proved too expensive," Hill told the Rochdale Observer.

"With Dale Stephens returning to Oldham and Gary Jones injured we had just 14 outfield players on Monday, and that included Ciaran Toner - who is nowhere near match fit - and Nathan Stanton, who is suspended.

"We will definitely be looking to dip into the loan market this week, but people have got to realise we do not have a mountain of money. There has to be some clarity over what can be achieved."
