Cup of cheer for Dunphy

Rochdale chairman Chris Dunphy says funds generated by success in the Carling Cup can be ploughed into the club's budget. Dale recorded a shock 1-0 first-round victory at Barnsley on Tuesday and have been drawn at Birmingham in the second round of the competition. The tie will be played in the week commencing August 23, and Dunphy said: "A run in any cup competition as many know is good, not just for the morale of a side but financially too. "We have come up with a budget that will enable us to continue to go forward yet ensure that this football club is run well within its means. "A run in the cup in whichever guise will bring increased revenue to the club and we can use any additional sums to strengthen the cause further still."
