Lester rescues Chesterfield

Jack Lester scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to rescue Chesterfield who were held to a 1-1 draw by Rochdale at the Proact Stadium.

Andrew Tutte put Rochdale in front with a long-range strike but Lester denied them victory when he headed in a corner.

Chesterfield carved out early chances and saw two efforts cleared off the line in the first 10 minutes before Rochdale's veteran striker Dele Adebola shot wide when he was through in the 12th minute.

Mark Randall fashioned another opening for Chesterfield in the 21st minute but Josh Lillis raced off his line to deny Marc Richards and the home side paid for those misses four minutes into the second half.

Tutte picked the ball up out on the left and unleashed an unstoppable shot from 25 yards that flew into the top right corner.

It looked enough to give Rochdale the points when Ryan Edwards made another goal-line clearance and Lillis tipped a Jordan Bowery shot over the bar in the closing minutes.

But three minutes into stoppage time, Lester headed in at the near post to save one of the promotion favourites from a second defeat.
