Brilliant Darron Gibson and Keith Fahey strikes capped a dominant Republic of Ireland display as Wales were crushed 3-0 in the Carling Nations Cup opener on Tuesday night.

The outstanding Damien Duff was also on target at the Aviva Stadium as Wales capitulated in the second half of Gary Speed's first match as manager.

Gibson opened the scoring with a stunning shot on the hour, Duff drove in from close range seven minutes later and substitute Fahey wrapped up victory eight minutes from time with a fine free-kick.
