Ireland captain Keane to face Faroes

Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane has been given the green light to face the Faroe Islands in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier.

Keane missed Friday's humiliating 6-1 defeat against Germany in Dublin with an Achilles injury, but the LA Galaxy forward trained with his Ireland team-mates on Sunday and was included in the squad for the Torshavn trip.

However, under-pressure Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni was dealt a fresh injury blow when Millwall striker Andy Keogh, who scored Ireland's consolation goal against the Germans, was ruled out due to a mild concussion.

Keogh was concussed following a collision in training on Saturday and had not recovered in time to make the flight.

A spokesman for the Football Association of Ireland said: "Following training this morning in Gannon Park, Robbie Keane has been ruled fit to travel with the squad for Tuesday's match against the Faroe Islands.

"Andy Keogh suffered a knock to the head in training on Saturday. He was observed overnight by the FAI medical team and has been ruled unfit to travel to the Faroe Islands this afternoon due to mild concussion."
