Walters sits out Ireland training

Striker Jon Walters sat out of Republic of Ireland training on Sunday ahead of Tuesday night's World Cup qualifier in Austria.

The Stoke frontman, who is nursing an ankle problem, was not involved as manager Giovanni Trapattoni put his players through their paces in Malahide on Sunday morning.

Hull midfielder Stephen Quinn, who was drafted into the squad as a replacement for hamstring victim Glenn Whelan last night, did take part in the session.

Ireland head for Vienna knowing anything less than a victory at the Ernst Happel Stadion will effectively end their slim hopes of reaching next summer's finals in Brazil.
