Richard Dunne sat out Republic of Ireland training on Tuesday as manager Giovanni Trapattoni maintained a cautious approach.
The 33-year-old, who Trapattoni said on Monday is "90 per cent" certain to start Friday's World Cup qualifier against the Faroe Islands, looked on as his team-mates went through their paces.
However, assistant manager Marco Tardelli later revealed he was rested as a precaution after making his first appearance for a year against Georgia on Sunday.
Goalkeeper David Forde and full-back Marc Wilson trained in the gym as they continued to nurse knee and hamstring problems respectively, but both are expected to return on Wednesday.
