McCarthy gets Ireland call

Wigan's James McCarthy has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for their Carling Nations Cup clash with Wales next week.

Republic boss Giovanni Trapattoni has finalised his 22-man squad for the game at the Aviva Stadium on February 8.

Midfielder McCarthy joins the squad while Birmingham midfielder Keith Fahey and Celtic striker Anthony Stokes have been placed on standby.
