Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane faces a race against time to be fit for Tuesday's decisive Euro 2012 qualifier against Armenia after being sent for scans on a sore abductor muscle.

The 31-year-old complained of soreness after returning from Andorra during the early hours of Saturday following his side's 2-0 Group B victory and the LA Galaxy star was immediately dispatched for checks on the problem.

However, Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni is confident his captain will be able to start the crunch clash with Armenia at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The hosts need just a point to ensure they secure a play-off berth and could still win the group if Russia suffer a shock defeat against Andorra.

Trapattoni has no other injury problems and his squad was boosted on Saturday by the arrival of Stoke forward Jonathan Walters, who was forced to miss the Andorra match due to an ankle problem.
