Giovanni Trapattoni names an expanded panel for season's international opener at the redeveloped Lansdowne Road venue. The Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given and Manchester United’s Darron Gibson both return to the Ireland squad after both players missed Ireland’s end of season friendly matches against Paraguay and latterly Algeria through injury. Greg Cunningham, a teammate of Given’s at club level, Derby County’s Paul Green and Cillian Sheridan of Celtic are also included in the twenty eight man squad following competent debut performances in those friendlies at the Royal Dublin Showgrounds. Stalwarts Richard Dunne and Kevin Kilbane who too sat out Ireland’s get together in May also return in Giovanni Trapattoni’s strongest available selection. Fit again Steven Reid, now of West Bromich Albion, announced his retirement from the Republic of Ireland set up last week as a measure to help concentrate on his continued battle to retain form and fitness at club level.
