Republic of Ireland midfielder Keith Fahey has been ruled out of Euro 2012 after failing to recover from a groin injury.
Fahey had been struggling with the groin problem since he joined up with Giovanni Trapattoni's squad ahead of Saturday's 1-0 win over Bosnia in Dublin.
The Birmingham star felt the injury again in the warm-up before the Bosnia friendly and that convinced Trapattoni to pull him out of the squad as he prepares to submit his final 23-man list for the tournament on Tuesday.
Former Derby midfielder Paul Green, who is currently without a club, has been drafted into the squad as a replacement.
Ireland have one more friendly against Hungary before kicking off their Euro campaign against Croatia in Poznan on June 10.
A spokesman for the Football Association of Ireland said: "During the warm-ups at today's match, Keith Fahey felt something not quite right. He was scanned following the match.
"The FAI medical team have just received the results of the scan which showed unfortunately that his groin strain was persisting.
"The results were discussed with the player and he agreed that would not recover fully in time for Euro 2012.
"As a result, he is departing from the squad and Paul Green is being called in.
"Giovanni Trapattoni spoke to the player, who is very disappointed to miss out on Euro 2012, and told him that he remains part of his plans for the future."
