Group B is looking like being the most closely fought of all the nine Euro 2012 qualifying groups. Anyone one of four countries could yet win the group with each of the combatants having to play one of the others in one of their two remaining games. Ireland's hard fought for draw in Russia had given them a lift and the group was then blown wide open when Armenia put four unanswered goals past a stunned Slokavia in Bratislava.
Victory for Russia away to Slovakia on October 7th would leave them with the simple task of beating Andorra at home to secure their spot in the finals. However should the Slovaks rediscover their form from earlier in the group stage then the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosts could still be pipped at the post. Anything but a win for the Russians will give fresh hope to the other countries and could make the match on October 11th between the Republic of Ireland and Armenia in Dublin a crucial one. Nothing is yet certain this group and we can expect a few more twists and turns before the final whistles blow in the last round of matches.
