Julien Feret and Mevlut Erding struck in either half as Rennes sealed their place in the final of the French League Cup on Wednesday after a 2-0 home victory over Ligue 1 rivals Montpellier.

Feret netted the opener for Frederic Antonetti's men at Route de Lorient on seven minutes and Erding doubled the Brittany outfit's advantage six minutes after the break as he skipped past visiting goalkeeper Laurent Pionnier to slot into an empty net.

Rennes will meet Saint-Etienne in the April 20 showpiece at Stade de France after Les Verts clinched their spot in the final on Tuesday after outlasting Lille 7-6 on penalties following a goalless draw at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Florent Balmont's miss in the shootout spared Saint-Etienne from elimination before Idrissa Gueye blazed over to hand Christophe Galtier's side victory and their first cup final appearance since 1982.
