Erding relieved at Rennes move from PSG

Turkish international striker Mevlut Erding on Wednesday spoke of his relief at leaving Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain for Breton top flight side Rennes.

The 24-year-old, born in France of Turkish parents, signed a three-and-a-half-year deal after completing a medical for a move reportedly worth between seven and eight million euros to end a nightmare at the Parc des Princes this season.

Erding - capped 13 times - arrived at PSG in June 2009 from Sochaux but has been a fringe player this term after scoring just one goal in 11 matches.

"I am relieved to have signed - I no longer had a future at Paris and it was really weighing me down that I had not played for almost six months after five full seasons," said Erding, who had managed a goal every two games in his first season in the capital.

"I have come here to bounce back with a new team and reach my goals," he added.

For Rennes it was the end of a long pursuit of the forward whom they had tried to sign while he was still with Sochaux and after PSG rebuffed their second attempt last summer.
