Marcelino Garcia Toral has been confirmed as the new coach of relegated Real Zaragoza.

The highly-rated Spanish tactician left Racing Santander after just one season despite the fact that he secured a sixth-placed La Liga finish and UEFA Cup football for the unfashionable side.

The 42-year-old has now agreed a two-year deal with Zaragoza, who were relegated from the top-flight on the final day of the season.

"Marcelino was unanimously considered the best coach in Spanish football last season and has opted to accept the offer of Real Zaragoza and lead our team, who next season will compete in the Segunda Division," read a club statement.

"The new project of Real Zaragoza has convinced the Asturian coach, who had received numerous offers from in Spain and various foreign clubs."
