Real Madrid's sporting director Jorge Valdano has warned that the Spanish giants are finding it hard to finalise further deals, having sealed the world record capture of Kaka from AC Milan.
Madrid are believed to be interested in Valencia striker David Villa, Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery and Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo, but Valdano is not confident over any of those moves.
He told El Mundo Deportivo: "Negotiations are hard work and things that appear simple are not.
"First we have to take in the signing of Kaka and at the right time we will announce more new signings.
"Wherever we look for players, there are always other clubs there before us or coming in with bids afterwards. We will not make predictions.
"We are working on many things at once, but we have to keep making corrections as we go. When selling players we also depend on the market.
"Things are not moving as much as we would like, because some things are not going as we want and we are having to look for alternatives.
"We are working behind the scenes and we will see what the squad looks like and try to make it better than later year, that is the aim."
